I was hoping to ski something new up on Mt. Duke but I got voted out by a vote of 4 to 1.So it was off to the Joffre Peak for an attempt of the North Face.I was a little concerned with the rating of
considerable. I have had friends get taken away in that rating.A few days earlier was the
annual Whistler ski for Lumpy Leidal who passed away over ten years ago in a massive
avalanche along with Pat and Scott from Deep Cove. Also much respect to Beeker and
Steve Clarke.
But once we got touring up the Anniversary glacier my confidence grew and the five of us.
made the climb up the Aussie couloir.
Sky and Naomi headed for the Joffre couloir.Jake Ziff and I had a wicked run down the
Aussie couloir. We skinned up towards Matier, and I started to get a second wind but we
just ran out to of light to get up Matier. We had some excellent skiing down the bottom of
the glacier.
Whistler has a lot of Aussies. Is that why they named it the Aussie couloir

Re: Just another Aussie couloir TR
great pictures!! and cool looking gully ! is it true that the name aussie came about because an australian fell down the entire length of the couloir in a ski attempt?
Re: Just another Aussie couloir TR
some nice pictures in there sky, looks beautiful. going for it in "considerable" danger, but i bet that couloir cleans itself pretty regularly, either way, pretty sweet.
Re: Just another Aussie couloir TR
