Big May Snowfalls = Insomnia?

50-70cm of low density snow fell up high in the last week. The wind seemed to strip it off of any breezy aspects, but loaded it onto a variety of aspects in different areas.
It was sitting on a hard crust and was capped by a 'meh' crust. Breakable with boots and an upside down pole too.
Seemed like a recipe for disaster to me, but maybe I'm still being paranoid.

Geoff and Bruno completed the McBride 27 hours after starting at Brohm Ridge at 7pm. I bailed out at Sphinx Pass and skied Deception under a full moon, then skied Gentian (more cruisy lazy turns) on my way out Cheakamus Lake trail the next morning to avoid the big puddles on Garibaldi Lake. It was fun, but it still left me wondering... Am I just paranoid now? Have I lost my confidence in snow?

Being afraid of that kind of new snow this time of year is just plain smart.

Gee thanks. I'm glad it's not just paranoia. I was like, if I don't feel right about it, why do these guys think it was so awesome. They keep telling everyone how good the snow conditions were and so it was putting doubt in my head. The last 2 years haven't really helped fix my head, and so I have a hard time figuring out if it's just me not trusting snow anymore or if I'm being "smart".

Thanks for reassuring my doubtful mind.

It's pretty much always smart to be afraid of new snow.

Might have helped that they were doing it at night, but I remember some sketchy spots of rotten snow along that McBride Traverse.

People mostly get away with being yahoos about snow conditions most of the time (self included). That doesn't mean it's right! I'm getting much more conservative myself because I want to do more of this before and after skiing.

I like Kaj's ski attire. Strong future of nude summit photos in front of him.
