Had loads of fun doing a linkup of the two highest peaks above Santa Fe yesterday.
There's a fun little catwalk on the way to the summit of Lake Peak from Ski Santa Fe.
Lake Peak summit, 12,409 ft, Santa Fe Baldy in the background, the higher Truchas Peaks in the distance to the north.
It's snowed something like 7" total in the last 3 weeks but the snow up here still stays pow. Still playing it cool because, maybe it could just go to the ground.
Shenanigans into a steep chute.
Micah making maneuvers on a straightline through the rocky choke.
Checking speed on the first turn: poof!
I enjoyed the preserved powder in the apron.
I wasn't even checking speed: poof!
More powder on sunny slopes.
Yee haw!
Strolling up Baldy, the views of Lake Peak were nice.
Near the top of Baldy (12,622 ft), there's a steep chute to the NE down to Lake Katherine that we still haven't skied. It will have to wait. The top looked like a big nasty windslab.
Micah with the 13ers of the Truchas Peaks in the distance and the 13ers above Taos further in the distance.
But we clicked into our skis and looked at the SE-facing cirque and the snow looked great! Micah dropping....
Steep fall line skiing with a wonderful, safe mix of spring and winter conditions.
That was worth the walk.
It's much quicker skiing the Winsor Trail home right now than it was hiking it last May....

Re: Lake Peak - Santa Fe Baldy Linkup
Cool turns. It looks 100 times colder there than it is here right now. And 100 times sunnier. +9 (C) in the alpine this weekend! Woo!
We skied Price last weekend with a super upside down snow pack and so avoided the fun bits on the north side

Re: Lake Peak - Santa Fe Baldy Linkup
We just got 4" in town and 11" on the hill the last two days. Should be some good sunny pow in the slackcountry this weekend!
Re: Lake Peak - Santa Fe Baldy Linkup
Taos has about the same snow pack as Stevens this year and double what Snoqualmie has.

It has been warm PeteH. How are the volcanoes? Can you still drive to Paradise? I feel like getting high is the way to go. It's currently 14 C (57 F) in Vancouver right now. Beautiful summer day. Lots of sticky snow fell above 7000' last week. Stoked! Mid winter corn cycle coming up? I hope so!
