Random NM scenery
I had a strange Friday. Currently I'm in possession of a truck kindly lent to me. I was going to drive it to the lab on Friday and get one last load of stuff from my old apartment. I forgot something on my way out the door, so I started the truck and temporarily parked it in the no-parking zone by my place. Then the truck wouldn't start. A jump didn't do it. It seems like it must be the solenoid or the starter. But I was getting a late start to my day after working past midnight on Thursday, so after Micah helped me move the truck into an acceptable place I hopped in my car and headed to work. On my way home from work, one of the hoses that circulate coolant through my engine busted. Hmph.
Eventually I drank my sorrows away and danced until late at Palace. Saturday I was hurting. Nevertheless we rallied to Taos Ski Valley. Micah and I trekked above Williams Lake despite our painful hangovers. The weather was decidedly poor.
We retreated before achieving glorious frostnip and found Alisson at The Bavarian. She did not want to drive home while it was snowing. So we got a good deal on a suite and stayed at The Bavarian, which I've wanted to do anyway. They sell more Spaten than any other bar in the states.
Dinner was delicious, served to us by an impeccable fellow in lederhosen.
This morning, both the weather and our constitutions were decidedly better.
Soon we were in the glorious alpine where pristine packed powder beckoned us.
The indefatigable New Mexican spring gales were in full effect on the summit. The discomfort was a small price to pay for the turns and views. Micah had fun on my ultra weight weenie Dynafit setup.
Reasons we like to ski.
The snow stayed good the whole way.
Lake Fork Peak: signed, sealed, delivered.
Spoon me, baby.
Home in Santa Fe after 5 pm, a wild hair struck circa six and we made for Diablo Canyon. We managed to get two pitches up Sundevil before it got too cold and dark.
We didn't do the stellar final pitch on the arete but I did get to crank the crux.
Now that's a proper weekend in northern New Mexico. Thanks Micah and Alisson!

Re: Lake Fork Peak and Lederhosen
Your camera takes nice pictures. You take nice pictures with a camera. Good combo. The snow is pretty and so are the rocks.
Looks like a really fun weekend. Glad you're getting out there, enjoying yourself and met a great buddy, Micah, to adventure with
Can't wait to hang out with you next month.

Glad to see you can take the man out of Leavenworth, but not the Leavenworth out of the man.

Naomi: can't wait to see you, too.
Good inside joke but I think The Bavarian is more legit than all of Leavenworth. Ask Naomi; she's from Vienna and she approves of the schnitzel. Plus, I don't recall ever seeing a worthwhile drindl sported in L-town but they seem to be de rigueur at The Bav.jplotz wrote:can take the Leavenworth

Re: Lake Fork Peak and Lederhosen
That looks pretty satisfying. Who's making the snowboarder turns
Wow, was this filmed on the upper Ave by any chance?? I find this much more charming and freakay than Richard D James' trip.

I'm not really an expert on snowboarding but I guess those were my turns.

Re: Lake Fork Peak and Lederhosen
Looks perfect. I was thinking one of these days I should remember to squeeze more turns out of my hard-earned vert, but watching FWT last week didn't help matters one bit.
