Fine Jade, other desert desserts

Post by skykilo »

Fine Jade caught my attention as an interesting climb.

This is on The Rectory next to Castleton Tower, not far from Moab. Two climbers are "halfway" up the route (past the longer first 2 pitches before the shorter last 2 pitches).

Before we get to that, here is the Southwest Face of Sister Superior which features Jah Man.

I climbed this enjoyable route with Kevin the previous day, but the battery on my camera died so this is the only picture.

Micah joined me for Fine Jade. Here he is near the end of the first pitch, well above the crux.

Micah flexes far above the off fingers (0.5 purple C4) crux on the second pitch.

Leading the third pitch, easier but still stellar.

I enjoyed the bolted finish.

Here Micah nears the end of difficulties and the top of the tower.

We walked to the other end of the formation. It was worth it. Micah poses with the Colorado River in the background and Sister Superior in the distance on the right.

That night, we met DAVE and LIZ in Moab. IT WAS SO GOOD TO SEE Y'ALL. Two more terrific days of climbing to follow....

Happy Thanksgiving Heffe! Looks like more goodness. Man, I've never put together that october-december was a good time to climb in the SW. I've got 60 hrs of vacation saved up. Might try to keep saving for a month+ long trip of unencumbered royal kick ass fun next year. There or elsewhere. So good to be out from under the past. Miss you dude. Looking forward to your next posts. Marq has been teasing on Facebook

...and that sure is some purdy sandstone by the way. Fun looking climbs. Where's the photos of that sandbagged offwidth?

I find myself in a very wet place where no splitter sandstone could survive. It should be therapeutic to go through those other photos later today!

Yeah I'm in Seattle right now where it's about 52 degrees and raining. Can't wait to be back in San Diego tomorrow where 65 degree temps and a 6' + swell is waiting my arrival.
