Found Marbles tour, The Triad -- Kumquat Couloir

Post by E_$ »

Dave B. and I skied the Kumquat (aka Cumshot) couloir (off shoulder of Triad's W summit, aka Little Richard), extending the descent to nearly 4K. We then contoured Marble Cr. Basin to ascend the Lost Marbles couloir and return to the car parked on Sibley Cr. Rd.

The approach entailed views and some sections of deep, steep and exposed snow. That's Little Richard on the right, El Dorado on left.

Conditions were sweet, stable powder up high, a bit funky in the middle, and more consistent, good-skiing snow lower. First pic is of the entrance, in the twin sunstreaks just behind the little aiguille.

Shenanigans required at the bottom to gain the basin. Photo is Dave's, he's got more good ones and might post...

The climb up Lost Marbles for home, was...fun.

It felt good to finally ski Kumquat after a couple early failed attempts with Sky. I agree that this couloir bears repeat visits.
Another of Dave's:

Sweet mother of Jesus, you just skied that with pow!? Can't beat that. How am I going to sleep tonight? Ski lines don't cum any better than that. Wish I had a better photo, but here's the best one I have.

The couloir!!!

(Well, for winter conditions, the motivated and blessed soul could link it with the summit via the West Face. Somebody go get it, then please come here to claim it!)

That was our intent, but we were slowed on the approach, mostly by travel conditions. That face was looking fat.

Thanks for the bump, D. Nice to virtually revisit that sweet line, hope to physically do so soon...

That was a par-tay last week--took the old man a while to recover.

Finally done with teaching duties too, ready to roll into the alpine (forecast be damned). Who wants to crag tomorrow whilst we wait for clouds to lift?
