TR: Couloir Fynn-Biselx: Chamonix

Post by BettyBoost »

After a week of shredding pow in Verbier and watching the world famous Drew Tabke come in number TWO as the Freeskiing Champion of the World I decided to come back to Chamonix and spend a couple days in the mountains. My british mate, Chippie Windross and I headed from the Grand Montets up to the Saleina Glacier for a night. We stayed in the bivouac Pointe de Plines, it had the freshest wool blankies and nice people. Chip had his eyes on a random (to me) south facing couliour, the Fynn-Biselx but we'd have to stay two nights. With a piece of pizza a croissant and a quiche, no gas and no water we decided to wing it. I rode my new women's Jone's Solution split. It's a little flexier and easier to maneuver than the men's Solution, not to mention, it's PINK! I think the ladies will dig it!

At the top of the couloir right after dropping my water and spending an hour at the top waiting for the snow to soften. I froze my buns off. We're really hoping it had softened up and to my surprise it hadn't and the descent was scary as hell. It was really hard to get an edge. I don't think the snow could've been worse.

It was a heinous decent. Frozen mank with runnels down the middle. We thought it was going to soften up but it never did. I descended around 1:45 and I waited half way down the face for Chippie do ski down an hour later. He said it was still frozen and freaky.

Somehow we made it out in two pieces. We gathered some random spaghetti and powdered milk in the bivouac hut and headed to this pimp shack, the Pointe d'Orny hut. We had this place to ourselves for the night. It was incredible, we feasted and slept a good 11 hours. Thanks Chip, you're the MAN!!! AND the best chef EVAR!

I might've offended this poor little Ibex

I watched your video and it was totally cool. I especially liked Dave's little tongue maneuver.

Here is an example of a viral video. Can you find any bald eagles and foxes over there?

Thanks Sky! Haha!

Holy crap, no cute wildlife in the Alps... Dave's tongue maneuver is the most adorable thing I've seen in a while.

come on now, chamoix tearing around the mountain, glissading on their buts and then running up to do it again, jumping off cliffs, that's not cute? baby ibex jumping three times as high as they are tall, doing 360s? include some clumsy baby marmots playing in your next video and see how many people watch it.

plenty of foxes too,but not seen as often. bearded vultures instead of bald eagles? not so cute though.
