Nicaragua

Kat and I went to Nicaragua for a week-long beach holiday.

No climbing or skiing. Though we did surf. Sort of.

We flew into Managua and promptly took a taxi south towards San Juan Del Sur, just north of the Costa Rican border. The distance wasn't too far but the going was pretty slow as the road was clogged with people driving every imaginary contraption like horse carts and mopeds.

Our destination was Playa Maderas, a surfing beach about 10k north of San Juan Del Sur.

The routine was to get up, have breakfast, surf for a couple hours. Then retire to the cantina for $1.50 Toñas and super fresh mahi mahi tacos. Go out and surf for a couple more hours, then come in and rehydrate with fresh pineapple daquiris (pineapple, ice, Flor de Caña rum).

The last day we were there we took a trip into town to be tourons.

That afternoon we went for a cool run on some backroads behind the place we were staying, which wound through pastoral, rural Nicaragua and finished on the other end of the beach. Lots of other stuff we wanted to do, and other parts of the country we wanted to explore, but didn't have a chance.

Next Time!
