Questa Dome, Question of Balance plus OOPS

Post by skykilo »

I had to take Naomi to Questa Dome because she likes slab climbing and it's the best granite I've ever climbed. It's in the mountains north of Taos. Here's the view from the hike: snow in the valley lingering from last weekend and some really immaculate golden granite awaits.

We did a variation this time called the OOPS roof. Question of Balance pulls the roof that hits the righthand skyline toward the left where it's smaller at 10c. OOOPS goes more direct where the roof is HUDGE for some exhilirating gut-busting heave action.

Naomi did a great job with this. Here she approaches the 5.11 crux on the 45-m long first pitch.

Naomi follows the stellar crack that comes after the face funk on the second pitch.

Here Naomi cruises the funky slab crux of the third pitch. 10/10+ slab moves traversing above small gear. Great job!

I follow some thin stuff. Cop a squat!

After pulling the big big badass roof, it's chickenhead soup for the soul for 200 ft or so to the top.

I top roped an 11d slab the other day in Little Cottonwood. We didn't know the grade but it looked doable from below. It was SO FRIGGIN SCARY but SO AWEOSOME!!! Unprotectable, with 3 bolts on the 100+ ft route. Slab is rad. I wanna do more! Nice work y'all! Let's climb towers soon!

That's awesome Liz! Ignore Ross, I would totally follow an 11d slab if someone lead it, otherwise I might try to lead it and then actually crap in my pants.

So, Indian Creek sadly won't work out this weekend but really hope you can make it down next weekend :)
