Mt Rainier Ski Route Topos

Post by Lowell_Skoog »

In light of the noteworthy ski season on Mt Rainier this year, I've created topo diagrams of all major ski routes on the mountain that I know about. This page complements the previous one I created for Mt Shuksan, which was announced in this thread:

Here's a link to the new Mt Rainier page:

And here's a teaser:

These diagrams are intended as a historical record not a guidebook. Please send additions and corrections.

Nicely done again, Lowell. I have a small correction for your Sunset Ridge line, both for my way and how Eric and Dan skied it continuously last year, if you want it to be as precise as possible.

And not that he'll ever read this, but nice line on the SEH there, Andy!

This is very informative. I was surprised to see when the Tahoma Glacier was first skied...not so long ago. It's a great side of the mountain, a place I hope to visit more often. You could add the circumnav of the peak as well...which you may have but I didn't see it? Hannah skied the Kautz Cleaver a month or so as well...ran into her after she returned?

Feel free to send your correction, Sky, either posted here or by email. Eric reminded me that he and Dan skied it continuously last year. I'll have to include that somehow.

Yes, the Tahoma Glacier history has been a puzzle to me. But that's the best information I've been able to obtain.

Did Hannah post anything about the Kautz Cleaver? If not, maybe I should email her about it.

They did ski it continuously, but in doing so I believe they missed the high point of Sunset Ridge, which is quite the spot.

Edit: I must have been delusional. I clicked the bigger version of your photo and it looks like you nailed it. Sorry, no correction.
