McGown (North Couloir)

I have been looking at skiing this line for awhile. It's another Sawtooth "classic". I like the way the coolie splits the mountain.

Way have an ass-load of snow still so the approach is an extra 3.5 miles. Last year, I could've rode my mountain bike on the road. This year there's still 3 feet of snow on it!

The snow was superb at the start of the day and we were all excited at the prospect of skiing powder in the coolie. This was dashed once the clouds parted. We had a total of four and ran a peloton, so the booter went easy.

Once at the top, the sun was full-on. It was a great day to be in the alpine!

Our split-board friend can't understand why we don't like crust! His battle cry is, "No crust for a snowboard"!

Even with the less than stellar snow conditions, it's nice to check it off the list. I may go back when it corns up. It's a cool line and there's lot's of other stuff to do in the upper basin.
