Terminal Cancer Couloir

Post by idahoalpine »

A terrible name for a aesthetic line in the Ruby mountains of Nevada. I saw a picture of this line scouting for ice about two years ago and wanted to ski it. Yesterday, I finally got to.

This is the backcountry scene outside of Elko. We were the only ones skiing without a heli. The snowmachine scene over there is another matter...

The approach is very short. It was only about 15 minutes from the car. Big change from hitting coolies in the Sawtooths! The line is on the buttress on the lookers right.
Image

The snow conditions made for a brutal booter, but an excellent descent.

The view from the road is deceptive because it appears to be a nice steep line. The truth is, it's probably no more than 35 degrees and very consistent top to bottom. It was still very fun to ski.

I am going to attempt to get out of Idaho more. Other than skiing in the Tetons, I haven't been skiing much in other areas. I need to change that.

Beauty, thanks for the TR. The more I ski in different places, the more I like to ski in different places.

Not sure about the location of the Cortex. Tuesday was my first trip skiing in Nevada, and I had a one track mind. From looking around and surfing, there seems to be no shortage of chute patrol opportunity.
