The winter of 2017-2018 was dismal for skiing in New Mexico. It just didn't snow enough. Similarly, it was a dry spring leading to severe drought conditions. Santa Fe National Forest was closed due to fire restrictions, so we couldn't climb at crags in the high forest like The Dungeon or around the Upper East Fork of the Jemez River. The Solar Cave at Diablo Canyon is on BLM land in the desert and it was not closed. For after-work sessions, it was just a question of how comfortable the temperature got before the light failed. Here George Perkins clips the third bolt of the ILL route, which also happens to be the first nominally 5.12c route I ever sent. He's signifantly more ripped now that he's been teetotal for more than a year. I had my camera at the crag to play with my new Leica D-LUX. (Click image for chrono)
