WA Pass with Dad

Post by casruff »

This last weekend I got two great days up at WA pass with my dad. The weekend was special for two reasons: (1) I got to get out with my dad (who turned 62 this year and and fostered my love for the mountains from a young age) for the first time this year since his accident** and (2) I successfully defended my masters thesis and am now a free man. Good company, good food and drink (wine, beer, and Cazadores anejo tequila to be exact), and last but not least excellent turns and scenery. It felt good to "burn some carbon out of the cylinders" (quote from old E).

On Saturday we met up with our buddy David and did the birthday tour in which we had a combination of light powder and creamy corn under broken clouds and blue sky.
I never get tired of this view...go climb sunny splitter granite and then ski some powder at the end of may.

On the second day dad and I went and skied a really fun gully off of kangaroo ridge in which we again found powder up top and corn down low.

Thanks dad for a really great and memorable weekend. I'm looking forward to catching up with a bunch of you guys and gals now that I don't have to be heading north for the summer.

**Dads accident consisted of falling off a 15 foot bridge head first into a boulder filled hole back in February. Injuries include 3 broken ribs, broken scapula, and chipped vertebrae in neck. Needless to say, Dad considers himself to be very lucky considering other potential outcomes. Needless to say, I feel lucky and fortunate to be able to enjoy the mountains with my dad again.

I'm Casey's Dad,Pete. Great slog up Kanga slot. But even better with my son. You have to do it with good friends in good weather. Great views great workout and phenomenal ski. Multiple laps on the entire face are possible for the very fit.
