TR: Give me some Cristaux, Chamonix, 4.22.10

Post by Diamond Dachshund »

WIth the warm temperatures the last few days and a lingering taste in my mouth from the golf course-turned rave, the Argentiere basin sounded like a good place to pass some time. The Col des Cristaux faces relatively NE, however even it gets quite a bit of sun this time of year.

The first bin at the Grands Montets put us in the first dispatch up the Argentiere Glacier. While not quite as long as its neighbor, the NE face of the Courtes, it seems a bit steeper but less exposed. Surrounding parties were skiing some other cool lines in the neighborhood inluding the Cordier and the Col des Courtes.

Some friends headed up the Verte.

The top looks good but it's heating up quick.

Some Frenchies simul-skiing.

Dave gets the sheltered pow on the spine. The skier's right offers slightly steeper skiing and better snow. It felt nicely steep (approaching 50 for a coupla hundred meters).

Good job tracking that one out.

The Col des Courtes is pretty cool too, if a little more in your face....
