Wasteland and Inner Passage - East Stronghold

Post by EpiKing505 »

Greetings from the land of giant child devouring rats, suggestive cacti and desert rocks!
Last weekend Nia and I headed to the East Stronghold with John and Taylor

Check out the mariposa photo bomb!
The first formation on the list was The Wasteland!

"
Nia and I opted to do the uber classic route called "The Wasteland" and John and Taylor did the more direct ascent on "Teenage Wasteland"

p3 was the money sauce! A fun chimney leads to copious chicken heads up an arête!

p4 and p5/6 meander right around a roof and back left to top out a slab!

Purdy place!

There is a fully equipped campground but we chose one of the many undeveloped sites to dodge the campers!

The next morning we awoke to a pack of Javelina's!

Apparently these things will attack children and chase adults.... thing was not too worried about us!

The next day we headed to the Rockefeller Group!
Lots of splitter in these parts!

Equipped with enough gear to aid climb a route in Yosemite we opted to solo the super classic "Inner Passage" ... it was everyone in the groups first encounter with a "sandbagged" 5.3 ... until this mega memorable jerk and flail none of us had ever known what is was like to be compacted in a multi story tall granite trash compactor! 3/4 mile of flaring chimney/ow/fun!
It started off almost reasonable!

Then SH$% got real!
