TR: Exploring the Aiguilles Rouges, Sans Les Peaux

Post by Diamond Dachshund »

So today I arrived at the top of the Index chair and looked in my bag to discover I had left my skins somewhere in my command center.
Liz skiing down the Glacier de la Floria

No worries, I would just hike halfway to fucking Texas and back on foot, in very, very deep snow. I couldn't let Liz miss another pow day at my expense.
Slashy. I don't know why the image is messed up.

So we mounted up and headed up what I think is the Aiguille de la Gliere, from about a hundred meters short of the summit, we dropped the col de la Floria. This face offered up some amazing fall line and extremely sheltered blower pow. Though it doesn't really feel like it, you're skiing on the Glacier de la Floria, a nice pocket glacier tucked up in there.
The terrain here is the kind we like.

Me. Suffering.
Me. Suffering.
After you exit the glacier there is still quite a ways of skiing. Anyway, we reached the bottom and headed around the corner to the col de berard, which is where the fun boot packing really began. From the col, one can ski all the way to the town of Le Buet where a train conveniently disposes of you.
Yes plz.
Yes plz.
All in all not so bad. I needed some punishment. I've been naughty.

Bode gets gold, DD rocks rouge. Sure you weren't just showing solidarity with Liz's snowboarding roots?

Is it just me, or is there something weird with this photo? I see it in both the "thumbnail" and the file. Whence the error?

Sometimes I feel like its appropriate to feel the agony and desperation of a snowboarder.

What about the desperation of a telemarker? How does that compare?

Wasn't paying very close attention earlier, but Cécile and I were in the neighborhood of your ascent above the Telesiège for two days when we climbed Aiguille de l'Index and Aiguille du Pouce last September. Kind of reminded me of the Cascades. Sure looks nice in winter attire!

To access the aforementioned face, you boot up right next to the Pouce/Floria col. It's very cascade-esque. Protected from the jetstream by the Massif, yet deliciously spackled with deep snow.
