The day 1 plan for Team LSD was leisurely; we hit Arches NP.
After many missed turns and a raucous crowd of ten people with five dogs and two babies trying to climb The Owl, we climbed a nice pitch called Chinese Eyes. Dave leads.
We finished the day on the Three Penguins.
We were going to climb it first thing in the morning, but it was cold and I got a whiff of sandbag. We climbed the crack on the right, Right Chimney. Dave and I did best-of-three paper-scissors-rock to see who would lead the first pitch. Dave dominated me but I led the pitch. It was his turn to lead the second pitch.
Here I'm taking measure of the second pitch while Liz follows.
Take a #4, ha ha. My #4 wasn't big enough, should have taken the #5 -- that must have been an old school #4 in the description. I was scared enough that I managed to get the on-sight. The second pitch is visible in the enlargement of the previous photo of the Penguins.
The next day we planned to climb something deep in Canyonlands. Dave pisses into the abyss.
I didn't realize how deep. My Civic is amazing with its Super Low gear. Monster Tower and Washer Woman (see her?) are a long 22 miles off the main road!
Dave leads the first pitch.
Liz leads the fun-filled second pitch, starting past the hole known as the Eye of the Needle.
My lead.
Dave leads the pitch along the ridge to the base of the summit tower.
The light and scenery were full value.
Canyonlands, moon, La Sals.
I had a blast cruising the last bolted bit right at sunset. We made the rappels in the dark without incident.
LET'S MEET THERE AGAIN ASAP!

Re: Three Penguins and Washer Woman
Nothing is more refreshing than a desert trip with team LSD. Hot tubs, knob polishing, tower crushing, BBQ pulled-pork, pizza illimitée.. what else do you need?
I love getting crushed by desert sandbags after a fall of euro bolt-clipping. TIL NEXT TIME>

Go climb in the rain somewhere. The photos hurt my eyes. Too much blue sky and too many bright colors
