Vancouver Visit

Post by skykilo »

Naomi had a big birthday bash so I made a trip to Vancouver. I won't go into details about it, but this picture of Maddy and Ryan is worth sharing.

Ryan and I practiced moderation, as some mature individuals are sometimes able, in the interest of fun on the Stawamus Chief the following day. I wanted to touch the Sheriff's Badge. We left the car around 1 pm on a lovely autumn afternoon. We started on Quickdraw, two bolted pitches next to Philistine Groove.

Ryan follows the second pitch, which had an interesting start.

The first pitch follows the slabby arete below him.

He found a nice knee-hook rest.

I found the first pitch of Daily Planet to be mega-classic. It's more than 30 meters starting with technical stemming in a corner with some crimpers, then some burly lieback, to a delicate and powerful couple of moves below the belay.

Ryan at the tricky spot.

Smiling with a nice sharp undercling.

The chimney on the second pitch looks fun.

It was late enough with an imminent drive to Seattle and some fatigue left from the party. Ryan on rappel.

I would revisit this in a heartbeat. The white granite of the Sheriff's Badge is pristine.
