Squamish, sampling The Calling

Eric decided we could ease him into harder climbing again by doing the first few pitches of The Calling.

The first pitch is very fun, super tech.

Are those pitches .12a? I couldn't find a topo. Are we talking thin hands here?

looks sweet! You'll make a fine rope gun on Astroman!

hey DD, yup rated 11d and 12a, the former for tech/burly moves, the latter more for endurance than the hardest move. reminded me of a steeper, more sustained version of the dihedral on WF Colchuck Balanced Rock.

near as i can tell, Sky's ready for an onsight attempt at Astroman, dude's climbing hard (for a dumpling). this was an excellent trip, it's just deluxe to wake up at a reasonable (late, even) hour and saunter up to a clean crag with solid rock--so different from my (realizing now) misguided alpine action. why suffer? WHY
